Plant nutrition starts with Boron

  • Boron enhances the uptake of Calcium, leading to stronger and healthier seedlings with more branching.
  • Boron aids in the development of the xylem and phloem vessels early on in the development
of the seedlings, improving translocation of water, minerals and carbohydrates.
  • Boron regulates hormone levels in plant for growth and reproduction, which improves
cell division at root tips, leaf and bud development.
  • Application of Boron has been shown to reduce clubroot development in Canola!

Many soils are deficient in Boron

  • Soils with low organic matter content, acidic soils, and sandy soils are particularly prone to Boron deficiency.
  • Boron is highly mobile, and is easily leached from soils.  Note that Boron can be stabilized with Humic Acid to produce Boron Humate.
  • Boron deficiency symptoms include stunted plant growth; pod abortion in canola; and low yields (see pictures below).
  • Many of these symptoms can be misinterpreted as weather phenomena.  Don’t be fooled!
  • It is extremely economical to correct deficient soils.
  • Application of Sunalta Boron costs around a dollar per acre!
